Hi, my name is Matthew Huang and I am currently a senior at Stuyvesant High school in New York City. I have been tutoring at the American Assimilation Helpline! (AAH!) since 2020.  It has been such a rewarding experience tutoring and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds domestically and internationally and fulfilling their educational needs.  I have also been proud to positively impact my local community by organizing various outreach events including an environmental conservation park clean up effort, environmental sustainability and food scarcity urban farm event, social justice fundraiser benefiting the refugees of Myanmar, health awareness for local immigrants.

At Stuyvesant, I am the AAH! Stuy Chapter President, Arista member, staff news writer at Spectator, and compete on the robotics team.  Advanced classes that I have taken include AP Calculus BC, AP Literature, AP Macroeconomics, AP Comparative Government (intended), AP US History, AP Government, AP English, AP Chemistry,  AP European History, AP Biology & a host of other honor courses.

Combining my interest in the digital humanities and history, I interned at the New York Historical Society as a Student Historian Teen Leader researching, storyboarding, and scripting to create podcasts, digital games, videos, and tours of the museum. I have also worked online for SchoolHouse.World as an SAT tutor. Since then I have become the co-lead for the Blog team, a part of the Onboarding team and Coaching team. In these roles, I direct tutors and peer reviewers on effective teaching and work to drive tutor quality initiatives.

In addition, I have a strong interest in historical research-writing, political science, and law. I have been a research assistant to a college professor analyzing historical databases. My interest in the marginalization of voting rights for minority communities and prison reform also led me to co-found a journal dedicated to these issues. In regard to law, I have become interested in studying corporate, labor, and constitutional law. Pursuing these interests, I interned at QLW Law Firm and participated in the National Labor Relations Board Student Ambassador Program. Going into my senior year, I am excited to participate in the NYU High School Law Institute Program. During my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, kayaking and swimming, and mountain biking.  

I know the value of having someone guide and support you through their experience, expertise, and advice.  So I truly want to pay the positive experience forward.  I appreciate AAH! as a tremendous platform and the role I have undertaken to spread this worthy cause.
